Miracles All Around Us

Updated: Sep 16, 2020

The time of miracles, signs, and wonders didn’t end two thousand years ago. It is here, now. Open your eyes and see what the Lord is doing.

When was the last time you saw a miracle in your life? Unless you answered within the last week, then you aren’t looking hard enough. God is constantly doing little things for us, signs, little gifts of love, and even larger things.

Think of them as God’s Easter Eggs, His little gifts to us to show us that He cares and is thinking about us. Those Easter Eggs come in all shapes and sizes. The thing is, we need to be looking for them.

When I was young, my mother’s best friend got leukemia. It was very, very bad and it looked grim. She was miraculously healed in a way that shocked all her doctors so that they even had to admit that God had stepped in and done something. That was a miracle, a rather large one that impacted many, many people.

During the beginning of the COVID pandemic when everything shut down, I discovered that I was starting my emergency shopping too late. The stores had no toilet paper (or any other kind of paper) and I couldn’t order any online. This was a problem because we were down to three rolls in the house at the time. (It was not something I was used to stockpiling.)

As those three rolls turned to zero I went to the store a desperate woman, begging God for help. I turned down the toilet paper aisle and the shelves were 100% empty for the entire aisle except for one tiny, battered package of four rolls on the top shelf just sitting there. I literally cried as I grabbed it and hurried to the cashiers who were equally shocked to see it. They’d had no toilet paper whatsoever in two weeks and no one knew where it had come from or how it got on that shelf. I did. It was a miracle, smaller, more personal, just for me.

On a particularly bad day where I had been suffering from spiritual attacks for months on end it looked like things might be letting up. I was hesitant to believe it, though, until a dear friend left me a message on my phone. She was opening her Bible to a random page every morning and leaving me a verse for the day. It could come from anywhere, be anything. My husband and I (who like to call ourselves the king and queen of whatever is appropriate at that moment) had been talking that morning and asking ourselves if we really were going to get a respite. I went to my phone and she had left me a verse. II Samuel 7:1 “And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies.” Asked and answered!

If you look for them you can find miracles in your life every week.

  • Something went unexpectedly your way when it shouldn’t have.

  • Someone did something kind for you out of the blue (sometimes they don’t even know why).

  • God sends a thunderstorm when you most need it (like right now as I’m writing this. Thank you, God!)

  • Something you need to buy but don’t want to spend the money on is unexpectedly on sale.

  • A moment of beauty captures your attention and reminds you that life is good and that God is love.

  • A slowpoke driver ends up saving you from being in a car accident that you would have been in the middle of if you’d been to that intersection thirty seconds sooner.

These are not accidents or coincidences. These are concrete examples of God’s love and care.

So, today, stop and notice what God is doing for you. How has He reached out to you?
