Three Most Basic Truths of Spiritual Warfare

“Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.’ And He said to them, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.’”

- Luke 10:17-20

“Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” That is one of the most powerful verses in all the Bible. It teaches us the three most basic truths of spiritual warfare.

1. US – the demons are subject to us. We have power over them and they must leave when we command them to. It is our command, us taking personal responsibility for making them go that makes it happen. We can cast out demons. They are not the bosses of us.

2. CHRIST’S NAME – this is where our power and authority comes from. Christ shedding His blood for us and conferring power on us is what makes it possible for us to command demons. That’s why it’s important to claim the source of our power.

3. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE POSITIVE – Spiritual warfare can become all-consuming sometimes. Sometimes it’s so intense that darkness is all we can seem to see. Jesus here gives us the key to refocusing. Instead of fixating on the battle raging around you, fixate on the glory and joy of your salvation. Sometimes the enemy can try to overwhelm you and beat you down through sheer numbers and exhaustion. If you focus too long on the battle and the darkness it tires you out. That’s why we need to continually refocus on the Victory – we are saved.

In the name of Jesus Christ, whose blood was shed on the cross for my sins, I command you demons to get away from me and all those reading this, right now!

God, thank You for loving us enough to die for us and empower us.
